Doctor Sleep by Stephen King

I loved the movie, and the book was even richer. I love the dynamics within the True Knot, I love the relationships between an all-grown-up Dan Torrance and his found family, and I love how I got to experience the Shining as a reader.

Some parts are pretty dark, but there’s a lot of hope and love and triumph.

I had an absolutely wonderful time Tuesday night at the Los Angeles book launch for The End Of The World As We Know It.

@skylightbooks hosted an amazing night in conversation with some of the contributors of this new anthology of stories set in the world of Stephen King’s The Stand. Such a treat to listen to @sarahlangan @catward66 @actualdavidjschow @tananarivedue @theaubry1 talk about their love of Stephen King and his works, their processes as writers, and how they balance writing and life. They couldn’t have been more warm, kind, and funny! @actualdavidjschow even brought (AMAZING!) chocolate chip cookies!

But my favorite part of the night was sharing it with my cutie pie husband, Sam. I started to feel a little run down and tired midway through the day and almost didn’t go. When I told him I was thinking I might stay home he rearranged his night to drive me there, sit beside me during the event, and eat chicken nuggets together on the drive home. What a hero!

The Lost House by @melissalarsenauthor

When an investigative podcast host invites Agnes to speak on the forty-year-old unsolved murder of her grandmother, she jumps at the chance to clear the prime suspect: her grandfather.

She travels from her home in California all the way to her father’s childhood home in Iceland to meet podcaster Nora Carver and see the abandoned family home. But she arrives to news of a new tragedy. A local girl has gone missing after a night of partying in the abandoned house.

Agnes fights the unrelenting Icelandic snow, recent heartbreak, and her own secret battles as she seeks answers to the past and the missing girl in the present.

It’s been so hot lately, this exciting thriller in the Icelandic snow was everything I hoped it would be. Trekking through the snow with Agnes while she tries to solve her family’s tragic mystery and find the missing girl was the perfect way to beat the heat.

The Enigma of Room 622 by @joeldicker

The best part of this book was reading it alongside my gentleman-fellow.

During the pandemic, date ideas were scarce and I was delighted when he suggested that we start buying books to read together. Books aren’t his passion, but our two-person bookclub became the highlight of our nightmare quarantine.

Our first book was The Shining.

Every Monday, we’d sit down at the table with mozzerella sticks and wine and talk about the book. And we got to end of our first book and picked another.

We’re not in a terrifying hellscape pandemic anymore, but the tradition lives on. We still pick books together, buy two copies, and sometimes we eat mozzarella sticks while we talk about them.

He’s my favorite person. I’m so glad we get to hang out.

I was so confident. Then I shattered a Pyrex dish.

I had to ask myself, “How badly do you want bread?”

I wanted it. And I wanted the oven to know who was boss. I picked up every shard of glass while listening to @goldengirlsdeepdive and then I gave it another go.

And the bread was worth. A little dramatic getting here, but worth it.
